Self improvement (1)

I couldn’t put my concentration on my tasks right now. The intention that made me sit at the front of this pc was to get my “to do” list shorter! Lot of tasks are now queuing up to be finished and submitted, while the due dates already past!

Really, I can’t get my job done at this moment. But, I guess this is normal. This is frequently happened when I worked as programmer years back. There is time that you can’t even solves a simple flow which needs only 3-5 lines of codes, but there is other time you are able to get your codes done in an hour which usually other people takes a day to find the solution. And the idea could suddenly appear, sometimes it came at the moment people in the office shut their pcs down and ready to get out from the office.

But, I cant apply this “technical attitude” onto “management attitude”, which where I am standing right now. I am still adjusting my work nature at the moment, and I need to do it fast. The way I think and see on things should be from the all angles, where I can get the whole picture of the matter discussed rather than seeing it from one side.

English and me (1)

My dearest friends, here is my first entry.

I will not elaborate what’s blogging all about, as Uncle Google is always there to offer you the answer. In the matter of how, Reza has his slides on “blogging 101”, and it should be simple enough to understand.

As instructed, we (members of SEV) are required to have a blog of our own, and should make a post for at least one article in 3 days. With a simple math calculation, it tells that I have to provide, approximately, 2-3 entries per week or 8-12 entries per month.

That’s if you see it in a calculative way.

Looking at the purposes of having the blog (as per the instruction), I couldn’t agree more on the intentions;
  1. To improve our English
  2. To brush up the way we think or see on things happening around us

My Story

My English will always be my worry, especially in the occasion that I need to communicate with my colleagues, bosses, clients, partners, publics and even with my kids! Towards the age of 23 in my life, English was just like an alien language for me. I won’t bother to get my English right and correct, until I started my second job in Cyber Village Sdn Bhd, back in year 2000. Working in a company which almost 95% of them are non-malay, it requires me to speak, write, hear and write all in English!

That was like a nightmare for me, but instead of looking at it as my own weakness (unable to conquer the English), I blamed the education system. Aahahhah! It could be true, or partially true, but the important is to work on the solution, not the problem.

From that moment, my dictionary (Kamus Bahasa Melayu – Bahasa Inggeris Oxford) became my closest companion in office, but most of the time Microsoft Word’s thesaurus helps me.

That’s one of the method I use to learn and improve my English, until now!
