English and me (1)

My dearest friends, here is my first entry.

I will not elaborate what’s blogging all about, as Uncle Google is always there to offer you the answer. In the matter of how, Reza has his slides on “blogging 101”, and it should be simple enough to understand.

As instructed, we (members of SEV) are required to have a blog of our own, and should make a post for at least one article in 3 days. With a simple math calculation, it tells that I have to provide, approximately, 2-3 entries per week or 8-12 entries per month.

That’s if you see it in a calculative way.

Looking at the purposes of having the blog (as per the instruction), I couldn’t agree more on the intentions;
  1. To improve our English
  2. To brush up the way we think or see on things happening around us

My Story

My English will always be my worry, especially in the occasion that I need to communicate with my colleagues, bosses, clients, partners, publics and even with my kids! Towards the age of 23 in my life, English was just like an alien language for me. I won’t bother to get my English right and correct, until I started my second job in Cyber Village Sdn Bhd, back in year 2000. Working in a company which almost 95% of them are non-malay, it requires me to speak, write, hear and write all in English!

That was like a nightmare for me, but instead of looking at it as my own weakness (unable to conquer the English), I blamed the education system. Aahahhah! It could be true, or partially true, but the important is to work on the solution, not the problem.

From that moment, my dictionary (Kamus Bahasa Melayu – Bahasa Inggeris Oxford) became my closest companion in office, but most of the time Microsoft Word’s thesaurus helps me.

That’s one of the method I use to learn and improve my English, until now!

  • cool bro. i think you are not alone, as we have seen so many gradutes lately that have simmilar limitation but what is important is having the right attitude. if anyone has an attitude of eargerness to learn the language, i bet he or she will be able to grasp the language easily.. its about practise... so talk, read and write more...

  • You should archive your BM-English dictionary. The fastest way to improve is to think and speak in English without trying to translate. Buy a good dictionary and use the thesaurus.

    Yang penting jangan segan pikir apa orang lain cakap. Kalau kita lapar, orang lain tak bagi makan :)

    I have some thots on englsih at speakthinkeffectively.blogspot.com

    Just Do It!!!
